Music for Meditation is a twilight meditation concert to be held in Federation Square's glorious modern amphitheatre. Bringing together some of Melbourne's finest performers of contemplative and intuitive music, including shakuhachi player Andrew MacGregor, harpist Michael Johnson and harmonic overtone singer Dean Frenkel, this meditation concert will also feature The Big Om, an interactive group sound experience.
Andrew MacGregor has studied shakuhachi for 20 years and continues to be captivated by its strong sound and the depth of feeling it conveys. He is passionate about the music of the Zen Buddhist tradition and has recorded several CDs, working with Riley Lee, Miho Yamaji and Haruko Watanabe.
Michael Johnson has been composing, recording and performing music for 30 years and is best known as a harpist. His compositions are regularly aired on national radio and television. He has been working at the Gawler Foundation since 1991, providing his tranquil music to aid the meditative work there and he is currently musician-in-residence at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.
Influenced by his deep experiences as a long-term meditator, Evri has found his 'sound' and fulfillment in expression through his original compositions performed on a vast selection of bass guitars. Evripides has gained a reputation as an inventive and electrifying player by taking bass playing to the extreme through innovative use of his six and seven string basses and a variety of electronic effects.
